'In this video, I show how easy it is to process 12 pounds of tomatoes using a KitchenAid mixer with the fruit/vegetable strainer attachment. The mixer is easy to use, and it efficiently peels and seeds the tomatoes in just 10 minutes! For comparison, I process another 12 pounds of tomatoes manually. For the manual process, I first score the tomatoes, blanch them in boiling water, cool them in ice cold water, chop and blend. The manual process takes a whopping 50 minutes from start to finish! Using a KitchenAid mixer with the strainer attachment is clearly a faster way to make tomato puree. So, if you plan on processing bushels of tomatoes and a lot of pasta sauce, watch this video to learn how to save time! At the end of this video, I also demonstrate how to use a food mill to make tomato juice out of the (discard) seeds and peels that one would normally just toss in the compost.
