The Soil Food Web is the network of organisms int the soil that make nutrient cycling possible for plants. Bacteria and fungi serve as the foundation- the primary consumers- in the soil food web. They are the organisms that break down organic matter and are the prey for the upper level predators. These predators include amoeba, flagellates, and other protozoa, as well as nematodes. The predators consume the bacteria and fungi, who have a high nitrogen concentration in their cell makeups. When the predators consume too much nitrogen, they \"poop\" it out in plant- available nutrient form, feeding the plants in the soil. It is this process that primarily feeds the plants in your gardens and in soils across the worlds. Learning how to manage and take care of the biology in your soils can help boost both production and carbon sequestration potential of your soil, adding a multitude of benefits for both your crops and the world.
