'FEELS JUST LIKE HONG KONG! Thai Street Food Tour | Bangkok, Chinatown (Yaowarat)'

'One thing I love doing is checking out different Chinatowns around the world. Every city has their own unique version of Chinatown. Some are are very impressive, and some, not so much. Bangkok\'s Chinatown had me completely baffled. When I turned the corner and saw all the glowing lights and busy life, I immediately lit up. All of a sudden I felt like I was actually in a Chinese city, like Hong Kong or Shanghai. It really exceeded my expectations with the scale of this bustling street. Every corner of this street had food of some sort, so you are bound to find something that will cure your cravings. From skewered style street food, open aired eateries to upscale Chinese restaurants. I was checking out the hustle and bustle of this lively street and was drawn in by the street food. I saw a particular dish called Rice Cake with Sweet Radish, which I had never heard of before. Very interesting treat as the sweet radish looks like some type of minced meat, and taste like chopped up mushrooms. The radish is simply stir fried, topped with minced pork and sitting on a bed of rice cakes. The soy sauce seasoning gives it a salty aroma which goes perfectly with the rice cakes. Next up I went for a very popular Thai dessert. Traditional Thai Pancakes could be found all over Bangkok, but this particular pancake is little more interesting. Usually Thai Pancakes are a sweet dessert, but this place had two different flavors, one of which was a savory. The savory one had grind up shrimp, coconut shreds, cilantro and egg all wrapped in a crispy sweet pancake dough. The sweetness and savory was a little contradicting for my liking, but still as interesting little treat if you want to explore your senses. The sweet pancake on the other hand was definitely more tasty as the entire pancake was all sweet with no contradictions. It was simply topped with shredded coconut and sweet egg yolk. Finally, I saw a sea of people lining up outside a particular stand, so I just had to go where the crowd was. Turns out, the crowd of people all had a sweet tooth. This store is known for their freshly baked bread filled with delicious sweet fillings of all flavors. I went with the butter egg custard, butter milk and butter chocolate. The egg custard was sweet with a delicious fluffy egg taste, and compared directly to the custard egg bun which are found at dim sum restaurants. The butter milk has a sweet milky flavor and looks very similar to condensed milk, but not as thick. The butter chocolate looks and taste like a melted down milk chocolate. The rich creamy sweetness was a little overwhelming for me as the sugary sweetness seemed to have taken over the whole thing. My favorite would have to be the butter egg custard, as it is very similar to one of my favorite Chinese desserts. Also, I did like the freshly toasted bread which gives it a warm crispy texture. I had such an amazing time visiting the Bangkok Chinatown, and I hope you did was well. Best way to get here is to taxi or tuk tuk. However, there is an MRT station about a 10 minute walk away if you prefer that option.
