'How do bodybuilders afford food? If their protein shakes and supplements cost hundreds of dollars a month, that seems unworkable. It isn\'t unworkable, because there are so many guys living that way. The USDA says an average person spends $100 to $150 a month per person on food. OK, I see what you mean. If the average guy spends $150 on food per month, how can he then afford to spend twice that on protein shakes and vitamins? I see what you mean. A lot of guys pay for the body building the way they pay for everything else, by getting a job. What kind of jobs can you get as a body builder? Theoretically, you\'d do great in construction. Or work in retail and sales. Body builders might or might not get hired by Abercrombie and Fitch, though GNC would take them. A lot of them sell vitamins and supplements to each other. That explains a lot. It defrays their costs, and they\'re a walking billboard for the product. There are also a lot of jobs that help guys stay in shape. Some body builders mow lawns for a living to get exercise plus a paycheck. Others work at the gym to defray their membership fees. Quite a few body builders work in security or as bouncers. In that field, looking big, strong and intimidating gets you the job. I guess anything that is manual labor is good, since it replaces working out. Whether digging ditches or picking up trash, it burns energy but doesn\'t replace workouts that sculpt muscle groups. But it does earn an income. What would you recommend? That a lot more people watch the TV show Dirty Jobs and appreciate that type of work. It is hard and pays well, but it isn\'t respected. And a lot of body builders do that type of work. Yeah, to pay the bills. Body building then is their source of pride, whereas the jobs that literally build our infrastructure are frowned upon. At least it pays for your food.'
