'A decent, and cheap, way to pulp apples prior to pressing for making cider. This is a second-hand InSinkerErator Batch Feed Model 78 (from gumtree) attached to an old sink and workstop (also gumtree) with some legs (Ikea) attached. Total cost something less than £100. 10L of pulp pressed to make about 1 gallon (UK) of juice. The apples never jam the impellers, but they can wedge together in the chamber, which is why you see me feeding them in bit by bit. It will cope with any apple big enough to fit into the InSinkErator, but larger ones are more likely to wedge (the simple fix being to throw a smaller apple at them). The InSinkErator was second-hand, so it got stripped, cleaned and sterilized before starting. Also, as it\'s a batch feed model it is supposed to only run when the plug is in, so I bypassed that switch (and removed all the internal gubbins connected with it) - the bigger chamber on the batch feed is a benefit (keeps the impellers further from my fingers and reduces the number of apples that pop out).'
