'ProLact Probioics introduction to our space food team. While the astronauts are exploring the boundaries for humanity in space, they’re encountering various health problems, such as osteoporosis, digestive and cardiovascular problems, free radicals and cosmic radiation, weight-loss. Many years ago, during the international space program “InterCosmos”, leading Bulgarian scientists developed probiotic functional food technology with an enormous application potential. That technology had been experimentally and clinically tested in trials on air force pilots, submarine crews, simulated shipwreck, North pole explorers and radioprotective effect. Furthermore, it has been used as rescue food during military operations. Following its civil applications, we’ve further improved the space food technology for more balanced and nutritional content. Includes 21 essential free amino acids, peptides, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, billions of probiotic bacteria as well as all important microelements found in milk or plants. The manufacturing technology allows for shelf-stable production at room temperatures for prolonged periods of time – over 5 years. Thanks to the low production and maintenance costs it could help solve food insecurity on Earth too. Adhering to Hippocrates’ concept “Let thy food be thy medicine”, we’ve come up with an innovative food system that resolves many of the above mentioned health issues in space. While having pleasant and familiar “caramel cookie” like taste, it nourishes emotional and mental well-being, but without the crumbs. With just 0.7 kg per day, the astronauts will fulfill their daily nutritional needs, practically without waste. The ProLact space food already has many happy customers on Earth, and we are dreaming of archiving the same in space.
