'King Crimson Cat Food (with Jeremy and Mel)'

'Stormy Mundy Selection (Occasional Series - Acts of Random Archive Rummaging) When Michael Giles, Keith Tippett, Peter Giles, and Robert Fripp started off on take 5 of Cat Food they could have had no inkling that fifty-two years after committing the song to magnetic tape their efforts would be revisited and given additional saxophone and yet more piano from a 2019 show in Cleveland, Ohio.  Although Mel Collins was a visitor and participant during the making of In The Wake Of Poseidon in 1970 he wasn’t present when the team laid down these tracks. Well, through the time-bending miracles of modern audio science, now he is. Jeremy Stacey was just six years old when the original team tackled Cat Food. When the track was recalled to the KC setlist, it’s fair to say that Jeremy’s Tippett-like flurries on the keyboard, heard on the right of this mix, turned many a head and set the pulse racing in concert. This mix presents the two men serving up a heavy pianistic noodle stew of angular shapes and fractious notes to whet the appetite.
