'An independent in parliament is trying to ban junk food ads targeted at kids. Sophie Scamps is asking the federal government to ban junk food sponsorship of kids\' sports and to stop TV ads from being shown at certain times. Yep, it seems like junk food ads are everywhere and that\'s something Independent MP Dr Sophie Scamps wants to change. She wants new rules banning junk food companies from advertising during prime-time TV hours and which reduce their sponsorship of sports events. In fact, a study from the National Obesity Strategy found that on average, kids were being exposed to 827 junk food ads on TV every year and that junk food sponsorships at sports events undermine the health benefits of the sport. Health experts say that kids are easily influenced by these ads and around a quarter of Aussie kids are overweight or obese. The UK has already started tackling the issue, it\'s banning food ads on prime time TV from next year. And Dr Scamps reckons that her new bill will be supported by parents across the country, but, what do you think?
