'The Best Japanese Karaage / Fried-Chicken Ever? Tenkatori Karaage [ASMR Eating 4K UHD Unboxing] Hello everybody, In this video, I show a very special meal, a karaage combo box from Tenkatori Karaage in Costa Mesa, CA. I’ve never eaten here before and I wasn’t expecting anything special. Maybe just some ordinary Japanese Karaage that’s freshly cooked, instead of the karaage you’d normally get at your local Japanese grocery’s deli section, that most likely has been sitting around for a little while. Or, maybe something similar to the side dishes you’d get at a ramen shop; which is usually an after-thought more or less, as those places focus more on the ramen itself. But, boy was I wrong! First, I will list and briefly describe what was included in this karaage combination box - a salad with an Asian/Japanese style dressing (think sweet, sesame and rice vinegar), miso soup with fresh seaweed and tofu, fresh high-quality sticky Japanese rice topped with 5 pieces of karaage, shrimp and vegetable tempura and 4 pieces of California sushi rolls. Of course, it was all accompanied by their respective sauces and sides - gari/pickled sushi ginger, wasabi, tempura dipping sauce, soy sauce, etc. I don’t want to fill this limited-space description box with too many words about the other items that isn’t karaage; so, I will keep it short. The salad was fresh and juicy. The miso soup was warm and comforting. The rice tasted very good and was sushi grade. The tempura was crispy, well made and tasty. The California rolls were good, like any other you’d find elsewhere. All of these included items were good. Maybe better, the same or even subpar than other Japanese restaurants serving similar items. So, I won’t even get into it and I don’t think it’s worth getting into it. At least not like their Japanese karaage / fried-chicken! Now that’s definitely worth getting into (your mouth!)! Now, I don’t know where to start. After eating this chicken, I was truly shocked (my aforementioned “wasn’t expecting much” played a role in this, I suppose). After the first bite and 2nd, it was a mind-F. I’ve never had karaage (or any fried-chicken for that matter) this moist and flavorful before. It was gushing out juices and fats I never knew a fried-chicken could produce. I also quickly noticed that the muscle fibers were unique in that it had apparent separation and contrast, like individual slivers and strands of heavenly chicken meat. After a few more bites, I realized it wasn’t just its’ ultra juicy and fatty properties that made this karaage/fried-chicken super duper delicious; it was also the meat itself! It was like a deep flavorful punch of garlic, salty and soy sauce flavors that were emanating from within the center of the meat itself, right down to it’s very core. Last , but definitely not least to mention, is its’ crust and skin. Now, the batter wasn’t anything too spectacular; but the skin was! Not every piece or karaage had a whopping’ly big hunk of chicken skin on it. But, the pieces that did have that, had it really good. These hunks of skin were like chicken chicharron, fried to a bubbly and magnificently crunchy perfection - just like chicharron ought to be. I really have no idea what their secret is (obviously). They say they’ve been at it (specialty karaage purveyors) since 1962. After eating their fried-chicken / karaage, I believe that 100%. It shows. The chicken is cooked perfectly (not over nor under done) and is unworldly delicious. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were using very high-quality and premium chickens that were raised in small, free-range and/or independent organic farms or something. Anyways, please try this place out if you are in town (I think they have a branch or two in the LA area as well). Thanks for watching! I know this video had some value to you :) Please throw a few bucks in the Tip jar to help me continue to make more great content.
